Aug. 17, 2022 (FORT WORTH, TX) — Trinity Metro’s flexible tech-enabled shared ride service, ZIPZONE, is celebrating its three-year anniversary this month, and new riders can still get their first two rides free with promo code “FTWWEB.”
Since launching in July 2019, ZIPZONE has provided over 70,000 rides to residents, workers, students, and visitors in the Fort Worth area, and has continued to expand its coverage year over year.
The goal of ZIPZONE is to use tech to expand access to flexible public transit for the Fort Worth community. With the Trinity Metro ZIPZONE app, anyone within the designated service zones can book an on-demand, shared ride at a moment’s notice. The app is powered by Via, the global leader in TransitTech. Via’s algorithms direct passengers to a nearby “virtual bus stop” within a short walking distance for pick up and drop off, allowing for quick and efficient shared trips without lengthy detours.
Since gas prices began rising nationally in March, ZIPZONE ridership has gained further popularity due to its affordability and convenience. In June, ZIPZONE expanded to launch the Southeast zone to serve more community members and needs than ever. Almost half of ZIPZONE’s riders connected with another transit hub, representing its success in expanding the reach of public transportation.
